A finales de los 80, Powell Peralta tenía un equipo de vert establecido que estaba al máximo de sus posibilidades con figuras como Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill y Lance Mountain. En un esfuerzo por ampliar la lista de profesionales de la empresa para incluir el creciente mercado del "Street-Style", comenzaron a incorporar nuevos profesionales del "street". Después de Tommy Guerrero, fue Mike Vallely y luego Ray Barbee. El cuarto profesional del street de Powell-Peralta que recibió un modelo de tabla fue Steve Saiz, de Long Beach.
