PRODUCT DETAILS
In 1974 Ben Aipa, the legendary Hawaiian surfer and shaper, made his mark in surfboard history with the development of ‘Da Sting’, a quick-turning shape he first made for Larry Bertleman. “I would watch him at the Lighthouse for a moment, and I could see what he was attempting to do… I knew he was the future, so I went back to the shop and imagined the kind of board dynamics he’d need to get the maneuvers he was attempting” Ben said. How perfect then that we would collaborate with the Aipa family to make a Carver surfskate model that also achieves the same quick turning, fast pumping maneuvers we pioneered for skateboards in 1996. The clear sugar coat grip shows off the classic blue flames, one of the most iconic airbrush designs in surfboard history.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the CX truck on the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete feel like to ride?
The CX truck on the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete is a compression carve system that uses a patented pivot mechanism, compressing into each turn to create a tight, responsive carve with natural rebound back to center. Compared to Carver's C7 truck, the CX is generally considered the more approachable starting point, since it delivers a fluid, surf-like pump without the wider, looser turning arc of the spring-loaded C7. Riders new to surfskating are commonly steered toward a CX setup like the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete before trying a C7.
What wheels are compatible with the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete?
The Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete ships with 69mm Smoke Concave 78A wheels and is also compatible with Carver's 68mm Mag and 70mm Mag wheel options, giving riders room to swap wheel profiles without changing trucks. Choosing a larger or smaller wheel within that compatible range mainly affects rollover speed and ride height rather than the turning feel, which comes from the CX truck itself. This flexibility is typical of Carver's CX and C7 truck platforms across their surfskate lineup.
What is the history behind the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete's shape and graphic?
The Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete is a collaboration with the Aipa family, based on Ben Aipa's 1974 quick-turning surfboard shape known as Da Sting, originally developed for surfer Larry Bertleman. The blue flame airbrush graphic under the clear sugar coat grip references one of the most recognized designs in surfboard history. Carver paired that heritage shape with its CX truck platform to recreate the same quick-turning, fast-pumping feel on pavement that the original board delivered on waves.
Is the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete suited to beginners or experienced surfskaters?
The CX truck used on the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete is widely recommended as the right starting point for surfskating, since it is more stable and easier to ride fakie than Carver's looser C7 truck. Riders typically start on a CX setup to learn pumping technique before moving to a C7 if they want a more radical, surf-like carve. This makes the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete a reasonable choice for someone new to surfskating who still wants a genuine pump and carve feel.
What size rider fits the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete?
The Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete measures 30.75 inches long and 10.25 inches wide with a 16.75 inch wheelbase, sizing that fits most teen and adult riders comfortably for both cruising and pumping in bowls or on the street. Its width and wheelbase sit in the mid-range for surfskate completes, wider than a compact street skateboard but shorter than a dedicated cruiser or longboard. This makes the Carver Aipa "Sting" CX Surfskate Complete versatile rather than sized for a specific niche.
